This question is still obscure. On the one hand, there is the standard ISO 12647 where there is a list of parameters of technological process and their meaning which guide you through the process of manufacturing printed forms and pressrun prints. In other standard, ISO 2846-1, requirements lead to printed paints. Basically, compliance with the developed norms at all stages of the process of manufacture should guarantee very good results. However, in practice it is not always predictable. It does not mean that achievement of conformity to requirements of the standard is totally impossible. On the contrary, many polygraphed enterprises in the different countries and in different times have already debugged their manufacture in such a way that requirements of the ISO are considered to be well. Generally, as a matter of fact, the output and input parameters shown in ISO 12647 are only criterion on which it is possible to check up, whether conditions of press conform to norms of this standard. However, there are no actual indications how to reach these parameters. In any case, maintenance of qualitative press is a problem of a printing house, and it should achieve conformity to existing international polygraphed norms. There is a reasonable question whether it is necessary to have that ISO standard. Be sure, it is necessary, and first of all for those who wishes to have constant, solid clients with branded names all over the world.
Imagine a situation. In one magazine it is planned to put advertising of the large international company (for example, cosmetic). The advertising module is combined in design and contains colours with barely perceptible shades (for example, hues of different foundation creams). The requirement of the advertiser is absolutely adequate reconstruction of this module in journal editions in different countries. Not a simply task to perform. Certainly, serious advertising agencies will make the module at the highest level; they will put all necessary structures and the certificated colour proof. It is quite necessary to “hit” in colour within printing process. But it is successful only in rare cases. On one quire of different strips for which proper colour rendition is necessary mutually exclusive procedures can be settled down. So, having proper colour print on one strip, it is possible to spoil the others. That is from pre-printing before reception of circulation it is necessary to carry out preparations under uniform specifications that is possible only at end-to-end standardization. Besides, requirements stipulated in the standard must be familiar to every participant of manufacturing and are equal to everyone. Thus, introducing the ISO standard in the process of printing is a matter of great importance.
